The short version
- Renew has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
- The subscriptions you enter stay on your device. If you use iCloud sync, they are also kept in your own private iCloud storage. We can't see them.
- About once a day, the app downloads exchange rates from a third-party service. That request contains none of your data, but like any internet request it shows the service your IP address.
- The only personal data we receive is what you send us yourself, for example when you email us for support.
The rest of this policy explains the details.
1. Who we are
Renew is developed and published by Yağız Ada Umur, an individual developer based in Türkiye ("we", "us", "our"). We are the data controller for the limited personal data described in this policy, which is mainly the emails you send us.
- Email: yadaumur@gmail.com
- Postal address: 17200 Çanakkale, Türkiye
2. What this policy covers
This policy applies to:
- the Renew app for iPhone and iPad, including its widgets, and earlier versions of the app published under other names;
- this website.
It does not cover Apple's services (the App Store, iCloud, Apple's push and notification services), which are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. It also does not cover other websites you open from the app, such as a provider's "manage subscription" page.
3. Information you enter in the app
Renew stores what you enter:
- subscription names, prices, currencies, billing cycles and dates;
- trial, pause and cancellation details, and payment history;
- categories, colors, the payment-method label, notes and links;
- your reminder and app settings.
Here is what happens to it:
- It is stored on your device, in a storage area that Renew shares only with its own widgets, so they can show your upcoming charges and totals.
- We don't receive it. Renew doesn't have a server, and it doesn't send this information to us or to anyone else.
- It is included in your device backups. If you back up your iPhone or iPad to iCloud or to a computer, Renew's data is part of that backup, as with any app.
- Your subscriptions can say a lot about you. For example, they may show that you use health, dating or religious services. This information stays with you; we never receive it.
Please don't enter full card numbers, security codes, passwords or other secrets in any field. The payment-method field is meant for a short label, such as "Personal card ••4242". Anything you type is stored as plain text and is included in exports and in iCloud sync.
4. iCloud sync (Renew Pro)
If you have Renew Pro and are signed in to iCloud, Renew syncs your data between your devices through Apple's CloudKit. Your data is kept in the private database of your own iCloud account. Sync turns on automatically for Pro users.
- That private database belongs to your Apple Account. We, as the developer, have no access to it.
- Apple stores and protects this data under its standard iCloud data protection: it is encrypted in transit and on Apple's servers. Renew doesn't add its own end-to-end encryption.
- To keep your devices up to date, Apple's push notification service sends silent signals to the app. They don't contain your subscription data.
- Apple's handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- If sync stops (for example, because Pro is no longer on your Apple Account or you sign out of iCloud), your data stays on your device. The copy in iCloud also stays until you delete it (see section 15). Changes you make while sync is off are not sent to the iCloud copy.
5. Exchange rates
To add up prices in different currencies, Renew downloads current exchange rates from ExchangeRate-API, a service of AYR Tech (Pty) Ltd, South Africa. This normally happens about once a day, when you open the app or when iOS runs it in the background.
- The request is the same for every user. It asks for today's rates against the US dollar. It contains none of your subscriptions, amounts or currencies, and no identifier.
- The service receives standard technical information. As with any internet request, it receives your device's IP address and the technical details iOS adds to the request: the app's name and version, the iOS version and your preferred languages.
- The service's servers may be outside your country. How it handles this information is described in its terms and privacy information.
- Renew works offline. If the request fails, Renew uses the last rates it downloaded or rates built into the app.
We don't receive anything from this request except the rates.
6. Reminders and notifications
If you allow notifications, Renew schedules renewal and trial reminders on your device using iOS's local notifications. They aren't sent through any server.
A reminder shows the subscription's name, the amount and the date. Whether this appears on your Lock Screen depends on your iOS settings (Settings › Notifications › Show Previews, or Settings › Notifications › Renew). Renew's app lock does not hide notifications.
7. Widgets
Renew's widgets show upcoming charges and totals on your Home Screen, Lock Screen or in StandBy. Depending on your iOS settings, iOS may hide amounts while your device is locked, but subscription names can stay visible. Renew's app lock does not hide widgets. If this matters to you, don't place Renew widgets on your Lock Screen.
8. App lock
If you turn on app lock, Renew asks iOS to check your Face ID, Touch ID, Optic ID or device passcode.
- The check happens entirely on your device. Renew only learns whether it succeeded. We never receive your biometric data or your passcode.
- App lock protects the app's screens, including the preview in the app switcher. It does not cover widgets, notifications, files you export or your device backups.
- If you come back to Renew within about a minute, it doesn't ask again.
9. Purchases
Renew Pro is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Apple.
- We don't receive your name, payment details or Apple Account details.
- Apple tells the app only whether Pro is available on your Apple Account, including through Family Sharing.
- Apple gives us sales reports that don't identify you.
10. Information Apple may share with us
Apple may share limited information with developers:
- Crash reports and usage statistics, only if you have chosen to share them with app developers (iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements › Share With App Developers). Apple provides these in aggregated or de-identified form.
- Ratings and reviews you post publicly on the App Store.
- TestFlight information, if you test a beta version. This includes what Apple's TestFlight terms describe, such as your name and email address if we invited you, and any feedback, screenshots or crash reports you choose to send.
We use this information only to fix problems and improve Renew.
11. When you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if it is included, your message and anything you attach.
When you use "Contact support" in the app, the email is pre-filled with the app version, device model and iOS version to help us troubleshoot. You can delete those lines before you send it.
- We use this information only to reply to you, solve the problem and keep a record of the conversation.
- We don't add you to any mailing list.
- Our email service is provided by Google (Gmail), so messages are stored on Google's servers, which may be outside your country.
- We keep support emails for as long as we need them to handle your request, and then for up to 2 years. After that we delete them, unless you ask us to delete them sooner or we need to keep them to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
12. Our website
This website doesn't use cookies, analytics or advertising. Like any website, it is delivered by a hosting provider (Vercel Inc.). The provider may process technical data, such as your IP address and browser type, in server logs to deliver and secure the site.
13. What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it for advertising.
- We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting software.
- We don't profile you or make automated decisions about you.
- Renew doesn't ask for access to your contacts, photos, location, camera or microphone.
14. How long information is kept
| Information | Where it is | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Everything you enter in the app | Your device, your device backups and, with Pro, your private iCloud | Until you delete it. We never hold it. |
| Internal safety copies (see section 15) | Your device only | Until you delete the app |
| Support emails | Our mailbox | Up to 2 years after the conversation ends |
| Crash reports and statistics from Apple | Apple's developer tools | As long as Apple makes them available to us |
15. Deleting your data
- One subscription: delete it in the app. If iCloud sync is on, it is also removed from your other devices.
- Everything on one device: delete the Renew app. This removes all of Renew's data from that device, including the widgets' data and the internal safety copies. To protect you from data loss, Renew keeps an internal copy of the data it imported from version 1.3. If you ever used "Start over" after a storage error, it also keeps a copy of the old data. These copies never leave your device.
- The copy in iCloud: on your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Account Storage (called "Storage" on some iOS versions). If Renew is listed there, choose it and delete its data. You can also turn off iCloud for Renew under Settings › [your name] › iCloud. If you need help, contact us.
- Device backups: Renew's data stays in existing iCloud or computer backups until those backups are deleted or replaced.
- Emails you sent us: ask us, and we'll delete them.
16. Security
Renew relies on the security of iOS and iCloud. Data on your device is protected by iOS data protection, which depends on your device passcode. Backup and CSV files you export are not encrypted, so keep them somewhere safe. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we design Renew to keep your data on your own devices.
17. Legal bases for processing (EEA, UK and Türkiye)
Where data protection laws apply, such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR or Türkiye's Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data (KVKK), we rely on the following legal bases:
| What we do | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Replying to emails and support requests | Taking steps you request and performing our agreement with you (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b); KVKK Art. 5(2)(c)). Our legitimate interest in helping users and improving the app (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f); KVKK Art. 5(2)(f)). |
| Having the app fetch exchange rates | Providing the currency conversion you use (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)). Our legitimate interest in accurate totals (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f); KVKK Art. 5(2)(f)). |
| Using crash reports and statistics from Apple | Your choice to share them with developers. Our legitimate interest in fixing problems (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f); KVKK Art. 5(2)(f)). |
| Keeping records when the law requires it, or for legal claims | Legal obligations (GDPR Art. 6(1)(c); KVKK Art. 5(2)(ç)). Establishing, exercising or defending legal claims (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f); KVKK Art. 5(2)(e)). |
We collect this information electronically, by email and through Apple's developer tools. Information that stays on your device or in your iCloud is not processed by us.
18. International transfers
We are based in Türkiye. Some information may be processed in other countries:
- emails you send us are stored on Google's servers, which may be in other countries, including the United States;
- the exchange-rate request goes to a service operated from South Africa, which may use servers in other countries.
Where the law requires it, we rely on the safeguards or exceptions that the law provides for international transfers. One example is a transfer that is necessary to answer a request you made.
19. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- have it corrected or deleted;
- restrict or object to its processing;
- receive it in a portable format;
- withdraw any consent you gave;
- not be subject to decisions based only on automated processing;
- complain to a data protection authority.
If you are in Türkiye, Article 11 of the KVKK also gives you the right to:
- learn whether your personal data is processed, and request information about it;
- learn the purpose of the processing and whether it is used for that purpose;
- know the third parties, in Türkiye or abroad, to whom it is transferred;
- ask for it to be corrected, deleted or destroyed, and for those third parties to be told;
- object to a result against you that comes only from automated analysis;
- claim compensation for damage caused by unlawful processing.
To use your rights, email us at yadaumur@gmail.com. We will answer within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm that you are the person the data is about, for example by replying from the same email address.
Because the data in the app never reaches us, we can't access, correct or delete it for you. You control it directly in the app. You can also export it at any time from Settings › Your data (Export backup or Export as CSV).
Complaints:
- Türkiye: you can complain to the Personal Data Protection Authority (Kişisel Verileri Koruma Kurumu, kvkk.gov.tr) after first contacting us.
- EEA: contact your local data protection authority.
- UK: contact the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
20. Children
Renew is a general-audience app for people managing their own subscriptions. It is not directed to children under 13, or under the minimum age set by the law where they live. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children, and the app itself sends us no data. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, for example by email, contact us and we will delete it.
21. Notice for US residents (including California)
- What we collected in the last 12 months: only from people who contacted us. That is identifiers (such as an email address), the content of their messages, and the device details included in support emails (device model, iOS version, app version).
- Where it came from: directly from you.
- What we use it for: support only.
- Selling and sharing: we have not sold personal information or "shared" it for cross-context behavioral advertising, including that of anyone under 16. We don't use or disclose sensitive personal information.
- Your rights: you can ask to know, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you by emailing us. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
- Privacy signals: because we don't sell, share or track, there is nothing to opt out of. We treat Global Privacy Control and "Do Not Track" signals as satisfied by default.
22. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will also give notice on this website or in the app before it takes effect, where reasonably possible.
